Power Construction is approaching its 100th year in business, and the company shows no signs of slowing down. While its roots are firmly planted in Chicago, Power has steadily expanded its reach—building on long-term client relationships to take on projects across the country.

Its acquisition of a national design-build cold storage and food processing firm five years ago accelerated this growth. Today, Power operates in 14 states and boasts a diverse portfolio that includes multifamily developments, healthcare facilities, and data centers.

The challenge 

Manual planning meets its match

As Power continued to scale, its traditional approach to workforce management began to show its limits. For years, workforce planning was managed by a single individual using a combination of Excel spreadsheets, PDFs, email, and phone calls. While the system was passable when their entire operation was local, the weaknesses became pronounced as they grew.

Monthly leadership meetings became exercises in frustration, with as much as 80% of the time spent simply nailing down the data—who was working where, which projects were active, and what information was actually accurate.

The manual process created additional pain points: tracking employee home locations, calculating distances to job sites, sharing resources between departments, and accounting for the different needs of pre-construction teams versus operations teams.

In 2020, Power discovered °µÍø³Ô¹Ï when it was still a relatively new product. Walsh, who led the rollout, was impressed from the start: “I’ve never had an easier software implementation.”

Their workforce planning is now a cross-organizational, collaborative effort, with all involved leaders working from the same real-time data source. “They start the workforce planning meeting knowing that everything is in °µÍø³Ô¹Ï and current,” Walsh explains.

This transformation has played a key role in supporting Power’s continued growth: “We would not be able to manage all of our work today without °µÍø³Ô¹Ï in place,” Matthew emphasizes. The platform’s mapping features and automatic distance calculations make it possible to efficiently staff projects across multiple states. °µÍø³Ô¹Ï also helped uncover a whole new layer of valuable data through experience tracking, which has transformed how their organization thinks about workforce planning.”

A go-to source of truth

°µÍø³Ô¹Ï is now Power’s “source of truth” for construction, location, and staff data, with multiple departments—marketing, operations, pre-con, and IT—all accessing the same reliable information. The experience tracking feature has proven invaluable for the marketing team when putting together proposals, while executive leadership relies on °µÍø³Ô¹Ï’s forecasting capabilities to communicate strategic plans to the board.

Perhaps most importantly, the time savings have been transformational. When Walsh asked leaders to quantify the time saved by °µÍø³Ô¹Ï, “they said it’s unquantifiable at this point.”

Looking ahead

Looking ahead to the next 100 years, Power sees °µÍø³Ô¹Ï as a fundamental piece of their continued growth. Matthew emphasizes, “Our leaders could not do their job today without having °µÍø³Ô¹Ï in place. It’s become a standard as part of their everyday.”

Power is working to integrate with their HR platform to eliminate manual data entry, and are considering importing historical project data to enhance their proposal process. They are also enthusiastic about °µÍø³Ô¹Ï’s forthcoming AI features.
